How to Pay for YouTube Premium (and Fix Declined Cards)

By Gpayvcc team

How to pay for YouTube Premium

Quick answer: You can pay for YouTube Premium on the YouTube website or Android app through your Google account, or on iPhone through the App Store. If your card is declined, check that it allows international and recurring payments, that the billing details match, and that the card's country fits your Google account's country. A prepaid virtual card can work where Google accepts it, but it does not change YouTube's prices or where Premium is available.

This guide covers where to subscribe, how to add a card, the common "transaction declined" problems and how to keep your subscription renewing. For a card made for streaming and app subscriptions, see the YouTube Premium card.

Where you subscribe changes who bills you

  • youtube.com or the Android app: billed by Google through the payment methods saved in your Google account.
  • The iPhone or iPad app: may be billed by Apple through your App Store account, often at a different price.

Manage or fix a Google-billed membership in your Google account or on YouTube's Purchases and memberships page. Manage an Apple-billed one in your Apple ID settings. YouTube's help center explains both routes.

Accepted payment methods

Google shows the payment methods available for your country at checkout. Credit and debit cards are the most widely accepted, and some countries also offer options such as PayPal or carrier billing. If you do not see a method at checkout, it is not offered for your account's country.

Adding a card

  1. Open YouTube Premium on the website and choose a plan.
  2. Choose to add a card, and enter the card number, expiry date and CVV.
  3. Enter the billing name and address supplied with your card, exactly as given.
  4. Complete any security check your card asks for, then confirm.

Your Google payments profile has a country that cannot be switched freely. A card or address cannot be used to move your membership to another country's price, and trying to do so breaks Google's terms. For general fixes, read why virtual cards get declined.

Prepaid cards and renewals

YouTube Premium renews every month, so a prepaid card needs enough balance on each renewal date.

  • Keep at least one month's price on the card, plus a margin for tax or conversion.
  • Use a reloadable card if you plan to keep the same card for months.
  • If a renewal fails, Google usually gives you a short window to fix the payment before the membership pauses.

Each card page lists what you pay for that card, and our pricing page compares them all.

Family and Student plans

A Family plan lets the manager share Premium with family members who live in the same household. The manager pays, so only the manager's card matters. Student plans require eligibility checks and periodic re-verification. Plan types and prices differ by country; YouTube shows what is available for your account.

Cancelling

Cancel a Google-billed membership on YouTube's Purchases and memberships page, or an Apple-billed one in your Apple ID subscriptions. Your benefits usually continue until the end of the period you already paid for.

Frequently asked questions

Can I pay for YouTube Premium with a prepaid card?

Often yes, where Google accepts that card for your account's country. Keep enough balance for each monthly renewal.

Why does YouTube say my transaction was declined?

Usually the card blocks international or recurring payments, the balance is too low, or the card's country does not fit your Google payments profile.

Can I pay for YouTube Premium with crypto?

Not directly. You can buy a prepaid card with crypto and use the card to pay.

Does a virtual card give me another country's price?

No. Prices and availability follow your genuine account country, not your card.

How do I change the card for my membership?

Update the payment method in your Google account, or in your Apple ID if you subscribed on iPhone.
